Apple Bliss: A Slice of Homestyle Heaven with Our Perfect Apple Pie Recipe

For a pie that's soft and fluffy, cooking apples are the way to go—they transform beautifully in the oven. Our simple yet scrumptious recipe is designed for a skillet or cast-iron frying pan pie. We start by cooking the apples in butter and cinnamon on the stovetop, then cover them with shop-bought pastry and bake to perfection. It's an easy and delightful way to enjoy a comforting dessert!

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 250g (2 cups) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 115g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, cold and cubed

  • 4-6 tablespoons ice water

For the filling:

  • 6-7 medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

  • 100g (1/2 cup) granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For assembly:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • Granulated sugar, for sprinkling

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Crust:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  • Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a ball, flatten into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

  • Or just buy the ready-made, saves so much time.

  1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

  1. Prepare the Filling:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.

  1. Roll Out the Dough:

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle large enough to fit into a 9-inch pie dish. Transfer the rolled-out dough to the pie dish, gently pressing it into the bottom and up the sides.

  1. Fill the Pie:

  • Pour the prepared apple filling into the pie crust, spreading it out evenly.

  1. Top the Pie:

  • Roll out the remaining dough into another circle large enough to cover the pie. Place the dough over the filling and trim any excess dough. Crimp the edges to seal the pie and cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

  1. Bake the Pie:

  • Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Place the pie on a baking sheet (to catch any drips) and bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

  1. Cool and Serve:

  • Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!

With its flaky, buttery crust and perfectly spiced apple filling, our Perfect Apple Pie is sure to become a family favourite. So grab your apron and get ready to bake up a slice of homestyle heaven!
